Design & Digital Marketing
for Mental Health

Spoken by Elizabeth Hill, MA, LMFT

Client since 2019

The best way to present the design and digital marketing work on behalf of  Elizabeth Hill, MA, LMFT — a mental health practitioner who has incorporated a unique blend of modalities of care, at times throughout her career — is to outline the story, occurring over two chapters. Her psychotherapy practice (“talk therapy”) was the starting point of our client-provider relationship and it remains the anchor her professional occupations today.

In 2019, following a referral from an existing client, Mark was hired by psychotherapist Elizabeth Hill, MA, LMFT, for help with search engine optimization (SEO). Initially feeling somewhat limited by Elizabeth’s one-page site, he quickly identified an opportunity for optimization — focusing on the significant portion of her client-base that is made of musicians, actors, writers, painters, etc.

Following further discussions with Elizabeth, and after the requisite keyword research, Mark suggested to optimize around the phrase “therapy for creatives.” Elizabeth agreed, so we proceeded with an edit and reorganization of her content, careful not to marginalize her clients that do not identify that way. Consistent with the new focus, Mark secured likely relevant domains and appropriately finished all of the onsite optimization. Immediately following the launch of the site, efforts towards offsite optimization ensued, creating a handful of social media profiles and other citations.

Fast forward to the summer of 2020 — the first summer of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was indeed a life-changing event for EVERYONE, exceptionally disastrous for many folks. The world slowed down, and it sparked significant creative energy (loosely defined) in many people, Elizabeth included. Her practice was thriving and so was her imagination.

Elizabeth is also a Master Indoor Cycling Instructor, and a couple years before the pandemic, she began to seriously consider how she could combine that occupation with her profession as a psychotherapist. On its own, aerobic activity is a powerful tool in achieving mental, in addition to, physical wellness. And voila! Psycletherapy™, a singular therapeutic modality was born. She introduced the idea to a couple of clients and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

It was during this period when she was approached by a representative of a burgeoning, organization called My Peak Challenge (MPC) with devoted members worldwide who refer to themselves as “Peakers,” taking cues from a set of online programming that is released monthly. According to the organization, MPC seeks to “educate and empower our members to gain mobility, rediscover their confidence, become stronger and healthier, ultimately increasing confidence and changing lives.” Initially, online programming featured physical training, yoga, and nutrition, each segment led by specialists — some may refer to these folks as “gurus.” (For more info on MPC, visit the website). MPC had their sights set on expansion and Elizabeth was eventually hired to lead the, then, new “Mindfulness” program.

When the organization announced Elizabeth as the new Mindfulness leader, thousands of people began to follow her on her personal Instagram account. Soon after, she called Mark to discuss all that was happening and also revealed that she had plans to purchase or lease a commercial space where she could work — in all of her capacities. She wasn’t exactly sure how to proceed with building an online presence, but she felt it was needed in order to accommodate the sudden fame among the Peaker population, along with her (aforementioned) aspirations.

A plan was hatched to start with a new Instagram account, attempting to connect her psychotherapy practice, Psycletherapy™, and MPC Mindfulness audience. Recognizing the common thread in this mix was mental health, the challenge was to create content that spoke to all three potential audiences, acknowledging the obvious — and hoping for an — overlap. Elizabeth came up with the moniker “Spoken” and consulted with Mark, weekly, to brainstorm.

As the ideas for posts emerged, Mark took on the role of a sounding board,  and eventually helped create the visual component. He also researched potential hashtags and provided editing assistance. This phase lasted for several months and provided Elizabeth with an opportunity to feel comfortable with the blend.

After the first month or two, we began to flush out a visual branding scheme, concurrent with social media posting. She arranged a photo shoot in Downtown LA, and Mark offered ideas for potential scenarios, one of which can be seen below — “being mindful in the middle of a (what would otherwise be) busy urban setting”. After the holidays, 2020-21, we proceeded with building out a new website, after the logo was created and the color palette finalized.

Later that year, Elizabeth decided that the journey she set out on had to be scaled back considerably, feeling it was taking too much away from her personal life, among other things. Today, Mark (Tastebuds) continues to work with Elizabeth on an as-needed basis.

Client Review:
In Her Own Words

“I cannot say enough about my overwhelmingly positive experience with Tastebuds and Mark Gentile. I first began working with Mark four years ago for SEO and social media help, and our time enduring relationship led to a new website creation, with subsequent updates/upgrades over the years, as my business has grown and evolved. Mark goes above and beyond to intimately familiarize himself with the ins and outs of my business, and my experience. Mark is exceptionally collaborative, while bringing his sleek, unmatched style.

I am so happy I was introduced to Tastebuds 4 years ago and I look forward to our relationship evolving as my business does. Abundant thanks to Mark!”
